Every implant journey starts with a conversation
A lot of people come to us having spent months researching implants online. They arrive knowing the procedure inside out but not quite knowing what to expect from us or whether the experience will live up to what they have read.
We understand that. Implant treatment is a significant decision and a meaningful investment. You deserve to know exactly what you are getting into before you say yes to anything.
That is what this page is about. Not a sales pitch. A genuine, honest account of what happens from the moment you contact us to the day your final restoration is fitted and everything in between.
Stage 1 — Getting in touch
The first step is simply contacting us. You can call 01606 44394, book online or send us a message on WhatsApp. Tell us you are interested in dental implants and we will arrange your free consultation.
At this point you do not need to know exactly what treatment you need, how many teeth are involved or whether you have enough bone. That is what the consultation is for. All you need to do is make the call.
A lot of patients tell us they put this off for months or even years. If that sounds familiar, you are not alone and there is no judgement here. Whenever you are ready, we are here.
Stage 2 — Your free consultation
Your first appointment at Brunner Court costs nothing and carries no obligation.
Dr Nikhil will sit down with you, take the time to understand your situation and listen to what you want. He will carry out a thorough clinical examination of your teeth, gums and bite, take any necessary x-rays and in many cases a CBCT scan in-house to get a three-dimensional picture of your bone structure.
By the end of the appointment you will have a clear picture of what treatment is possible in your case, what it involves and what it will cost. Everything is provided in writing before you leave. There is no pressure to proceed and no follow-up sales call if you want time to think.
What your free consultation includes:
- A thorough clinical examination
- X-rays and CBCT scan where required
- A full discussion of your treatment options
- A written treatment plan with a complete cost breakdown
- Time to ask as many questions as you need
Stage 3 — Your treatment plan
Once you have had time to review your options and you are ready to go ahead, we will confirm your treatment plan and book your appointments.
Your plan will set out every stage of treatment in the right sequence, including any preparatory work such as extractions or bone grafting if needed, along with the timeline, the fees and the finance options available to you. Nothing is left vague or open-ended.
If finance through Tabeo is the right fit, you can apply online in under five minutes and receive an instant decision. We will talk through the options at your consultation so you know exactly what monthly payments look like before you commit.
Some patients need preparatory treatment before implant placement can begin. Others are ready to proceed straight to surgery. Your plan will make clear which applies to you and why.
Stage 4 — Preparatory treatment (where needed)
Not every patient needs preparatory work before implant placement. But for those who do, this stage is important and worth understanding before you start.
Tooth extractions If any remaining teeth at the implant site are being removed as part of the plan, these are carried out first and allowed to heal before implant surgery takes place. In some cases a socket preservation graft is placed at the time of extraction to maintain bone volume at the site.
Bone grafting Where bone volume has reduced, most commonly because a tooth has been missing for some time, bone grafting rebuilds the site to a level where an implant can be placed successfully. Healing typically adds three to six months to the overall timeline.
Sinus lift For implants in the upper back jaw, a sinus lift may be needed to create sufficient bone height beneath the sinus cavity. This is carried out in-house and, depending on the technique used, can add three to nine months to the timeline before implant placement.
All preparatory procedures at Brunner Court are carried out in-house by Dr Nikhil. You do not need to be referred elsewhere at any stage.
Stage 5 — Implant placement
This is the appointment most patients are nervous about. It is also, consistently, the one they tell us afterwards was nothing like they expected.
Implant placement is a surgical procedure but it is carried out under local anaesthetic and is far more straightforward than most patients anticipate. The implant, a small titanium post, is placed into the prepared site in the jawbone. For a single implant the procedure typically takes around an hour. For multiple implants or full arch treatment it takes longer.
Sedation is available for patients who are anxious and is commonly used for more complex cases. If you would feel more comfortable with sedation, just let us know when you book and we will arrange it as part of your appointment.
Most patients are genuinely surprised by how calm and manageable the day is. Some are back at work the following day.
Stage 6 — Healing and osseointegration
Once the implant is placed, the healing phase begins. Over the following weeks and months, the titanium post integrates with the surrounding bone in a process called osseointegration, essentially, the bone grows around the implant and fuses with it, creating a permanent, stable anchor.
This stage cannot be rushed. It takes the time it takes. For most patients it is between six and twelve weeks for a straightforward single implant, though more complex cases may take longer.
During this period most patients wear a temporary restoration so there is no visible gap. You will attend a small number of review appointments so Dr Nikhil can monitor progress and confirm when healing is complete.
Stage 7 — Your final restoration
Once osseointegration is confirmed, your final restoration is designed, fabricated and fitted.
Whether this is a crown, a bridge, a set of implant retained dentures or a full arch, it is custom-made to match your surrounding teeth in colour, shape and size. Your clinician checks the fit, bite and appearance carefully at the fitting appointment and makes any adjustments needed before the restoration is permanently secured.
This is the appointment most patients remember most vividly because it is the first time they see the finished result. For many patients it is the end of years of managing a problem they thought they would have to live with indefinitely.
Stage 8 — Aftercare and long-term maintenance
Dental implants are designed to last a lifetime but only if they are looked after. The good news is that caring for an implant is not complicated. You clean it exactly as you would a natural tooth.
Day-to-day care:
- Brush twice daily with a soft-bristled toothbrush
- Use interdental brushes or floss to clean around the implant
- Use a low-abrasive toothpaste
Ongoing professional care:
- Attend regular check-up appointments at Brunner Court
- Book hygiene appointments at least twice a year, the hygienist can clean around the implant in ways daily brushing cannot reach
- Contact us promptly if you notice any changes around the implant site
We will see you for a review appointment after the final restoration is fitted, and we remain available throughout the life of your implant. If anything changes, however small, get in touch and we will take a look.

Frequently asked questions about your implant journey
The timeline varies depending on the complexity of your case. A straightforward single implant with no preparatory work typically takes three to six months from placement to final restoration. Cases involving bone grafting or sinus lift procedures will take longer, often between six and eighteen months in total. Same day implants are available for suitable candidates, where a temporary restoration is placed on the day of surgery. Your clinician will give you a personalised timeline at your free consultation.
The number of appointments depends on your treatment plan. At a minimum, you will attend a free consultation, a planning appointment, the implant placement procedure, a healing review and a final fitting appointment. More complex cases or cases involving preparatory treatment, will involve additional appointments. Your treatment plan will set out the full appointment schedule clearly before you begin.
It adds time to the overall timeline, typically three to six months for the graft to heal before implant placement can proceed. It does not change the fundamental experience. The bone grafting procedure is carried out in-house by Dr Nikhil under local anaesthetic, and most patients find it entirely manageable. Your treatment plan will set out clearly whether bone grafting is needed in your case and what it involves.
Most patients experience some tenderness and swelling in the area for a few days following surgery, which is normal and manageable with over-the-counter pain relief. Most patients are back to normal activities within a day or two. You will be given full written aftercare instructions at your appointment and our team is available if you have any questions or concerns during the healing period.
