What are dentures?
Dentures are custom-made removable appliances that replace some or all of the natural teeth in the upper or lower jaw. They sit on the gum tissue and, in the case of partial dentures, may be supported by the remaining natural teeth. They are removed for cleaning and worn during the day.
Modern dentures are a significant improvement on older generations of the same appliance. The materials, the techniques for taking impressions and the ability to match the shade, shape and size of the teeth to the individual patient mean that well-made dentures today look far more natural and fit far more comfortably than the dentures most people associate with the word.
That said, dentures do have limitations. They rest on the gum surface and rely on the shape of the ridge and, for some patients, a small amount of adhesive to stay in place. Over time, as the underlying bone gradually resorbs, the fit changes and the denture may need relining or replacing. For patients who want a more stable, permanent solution, implant retained dentures or a fixed implant bridge may be worth considering alongside a conventional denture as part of the consultation.
Types of denture we offer
Full acrylic denture
A complete denture that replaces all of the teeth on the upper or lower arch. Made from acrylic resin, it is designed to fit snugly against the gum tissue and is retained by suction and the natural contours of the jaw. Suitable for patients who have lost all or most of their teeth on one arch.
Full arch from £1,200
Partial acrylic denture
A removable partial denture that replaces one or more missing teeth where natural teeth remain on either side. Made from acrylic resin with clasps that anchor to the remaining teeth for stability. A straightforward and cost-effective option for patients missing several teeth.

Cobalt Chrome partial denture
A partial denture with a metal framework made from Cobalt Chrome alloy, which is thinner, stronger and more durable than a full acrylic partial. The metal framework provides greater stability and a more comfortable fit than acrylic alone, and tends to last longer. The recommended choice where a partial denture is expected to be worn long-term.

Implant retained dentures
For patients who want the stability of a denture that does not move, implant retained dentures are anchored to a small number of dental implants placed in the jawbone. The denture clips onto the implants and stays firmly in place throughout the day. A significant step up in comfort and confidence compared to a conventional removable denture. Am I a suitable candidate?
Most adults who are missing teeth and in reasonable general dental health are suitable candidates for dentures. The main requirements are healthy gum tissue and sufficient ridge support to hold the denture in place.
Dentures may be the right option if you:
- Are missing most or all of your teeth on one or both arches
- Are missing several teeth and want a removable solution
- Are not ready for or suitable for implant treatment
- Want to restore your ability to eat, speak and smile comfortably
- Are in good general health with healthy gums
We would discuss your circumstances carefully if you:
- Have significant bone loss: Significant resorption of the ridge can make fitting a stable conventional denture challenging. An implant retained denture may provide a better outcome. Your clinician will advise at consultation.
- Have existing teeth that are in poor health: Any decay or gum disease needs to be addressed before dentures are made. A healthy foundation gives the denture the best chance of fitting well and lasting.
- Grind your teeth: Bruxism places considerable force on denture teeth and can shorten their lifespan significantly. Your clinician will take this into account when planning your treatment.
- Are considering dentures as a temporary measure before implants: This is entirely possible and commonly done. Your clinician will plan the denture with your longer-term goals in mind.
What does getting dentures involve?
Consultation and assessment
Dr Natasja Kashyap will examine your mouth, assess the condition of any remaining teeth and gum tissue, and discuss the most appropriate type of denture for your situation. A written treatment plan with full costs is provided before any work begins.
Preliminary impressions
Initial impressions of your upper and lower arches are taken to create study models of your mouth. These are used to plan the denture and assess the bite relationship between the upper and lower jaws.
Working impressions and bite registration
More detailed impressions are taken along with a bite registration, which records how your jaws come together. This information is sent to the dental laboratory where your denture is fabricated.
Try-in appointment
A wax trial version of the denture is made so you can assess the appearance and fit before the final denture is produced. This is an important step that allows adjustments to be made to the tooth positions, shade and overall aesthetics before anything is finalised.
Fitting your denture
The finished denture is fitted and checked carefully for comfort, fit and appearance. Minor adjustments are made at this appointment to ensure it sits well and feels as natural as possible.
Review and adjustment
A follow-up appointment is arranged to review how the denture is settling. Most patients need one or two small adjustments in the weeks after fitting as the gum tissue adapts to the new denture.
