What is anti-wrinkle treatment?
Anti-wrinkle treatment uses small, precise injections of botulinum toxin to temporarily relax the muscles that cause expression lines to form. When these muscles contract repeatedly over time, frowning, raising the eyebrows, squinting, the skin above them creases. Over years, those creases become permanent lines even when the face is at rest.
Botulinum toxin interrupts the signal between the nerve and the muscle, reducing the muscle’s ability to contract fully. The overlying skin smooths out and the lines become less visible or disappear entirely. The effect is not permanent, the muscle gradually recovers its function over three to four months and treatment is repeated to maintain the result.
The key word in all of this is subtle. A well-administered anti-wrinkle treatment should not produce a frozen or expressionless appearance. It should produce a face that looks rested, refreshed and naturally younger, without anyone being able to pinpoint exactly what has changed.

Forehead lines
Horizontal lines across the forehead caused by repeated raising of the eyebrows. One of the most commonly treated areas and one where well-judged anti-wrinkle treatment produces a very natural result.
Frown lines (glabellar lines)
The vertical lines between the eyebrows are caused by frowning and concentrating. Often referred to as the eleven lines. Treating this area can significantly reduce a tired or stern resting expression.
Crow's feet
The fine lines that radiate from the outer corners of the eyes when smiling or squinting. One of the earliest signs of ageing for many patients and one of the most effectively treated areas with botulinum toxin.
Combined areas
Most patients treat two or more areas in a single appointment to achieve a balanced, harmonious result. Treating the forehead alone, for example, can occasionally emphasise the brow area if the frown lines are not addressed at the same time. Dimitris will advise on the combination that produces the most natural outcome for your specific face.
Am I a suitable candidate?
Most healthy adults who want to reduce the appearance of expression lines are suitable candidates for anti-wrinkle treatment. A full medical assessment is carried out at every appointment before treatment proceeds.
Anti-wrinkle treatment may be right for you if:
- You are a healthy adult aged 18 or over
- You have expression lines on the forehead, between the brows or around the eyes that you would like to reduce
- You want a subtle, natural-looking result rather than a dramatic change
- You are not pregnant or breastfeeding
- You have realistic expectations about what injectable treatment can achieve
We would discuss your circumstances carefully if you:
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding: Anti-wrinkle treatment is not carried out during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
- Have certain neurological conditions: Conditions such as myasthenia gravis and some other neuromuscular disorders are contraindicated for botulinum toxin treatment. A full medical history is taken at your consultation.
- Take certain medications: Some medications interact with botulinum toxin. Your clinician will review your full medication list at your medical assessment.
- Have had treatment elsewhere recently: Where botulinum toxin has been administered elsewhere within the previous three months, your clinician will take a full treatment history before proceeding.

He will explain the expected results, the likely duration of effect and the potential side effects before any decision is made. There is no obligation to proceed at the consultation stage.
Consent
Full written consent is obtained before treatment begins. Dimitris will ensure you have a clear understanding of what the procedure involves, the products being used and what to expect during recovery.
The injections
The treatment itself takes approximately fifteen to twenty minutes. A series of small, precise injections are made into the targeted muscles using a very fine needle. Most patients describe the sensation as a brief, mild sting at each injection point. Topical anaesthetic cream is available for patients who prefer it, though most find it unnecessary.
Aftercare
Written aftercare instructions are provided at the end of your appointment. In the hours following treatment you are advised to avoid strenuous exercise, alcohol, lying flat and touching or rubbing the treated areas. Specific guidance will be discussed with you at your appointment.
Two-week review
A review appointment is arranged two weeks after treatment, included in the treatment fee. At this appointment Dimitris assesses the result and can carry out a minor top-up if any area has not responded fully to the initial treatment. This is standard practice and ensures you leave satisfied with the outcome.
