Dental care for children at Brunner Court

Children’s teeth need the same careful attention as adult teeth, often more so during the years when habits are forming and permanent teeth are coming through. A child who has positive early experiences at the dentist is far more likely to maintain good dental health throughout their life. A child who has a difficult or frightening experience is far more likely to become an anxious adult patient.

At Brunner Court, we take children’s dental visits seriously. Appointments are never rushed. We take the time to explain what we are going to do before we do it, in a way that is appropriate for the child’s age. We welcome questions from both children and parents. And we always aim to make the appointment feel as normal and unintimidating as possible.

Whether your child has been coming to us since their first tooth appeared or you are bringing them for the first time having moved to Northwich, you and your child will be looked after with the same care we extend to every patient at the practice.

What dental treatments are available for children?

Dental examinations

Regular check-ups allow your child's clinician to monitor the development of their teeth and jaws, identify any concerns early and provide guidance on home care and diet. Routine examinations from £55.

Dental x-rays

X-rays are taken when clinically indicated to check for decay between the teeth, assess the development of adult teeth and identify any issues not visible on examination. From £15 per x-ray.

Scale and polish / hygiene visits

Professional cleaning removes plaque and tartar that brushing misses and establishes a good hygiene routine from an early age. Our hygiene team is experienced with younger patients.

Fissure sealants

A fissure sealant is a thin protective coating applied to the biting surfaces of the back teeth, sealing the deep grooves where decay most commonly begins. The procedure is quick, completely painless and highly effective at preventing decay in children who are susceptible. From £25 per tooth.

White fillings

Where a child has a cavity that needs treatment, tooth-coloured composite fillings restore the tooth without the appearance of silver amalgam. From £225.

Preventive advice and diet guidance

We provide practical, honest guidance for parents on diet, toothbrushing technique, fluoride toothpaste use and the management of habits such as thumb-sucking and prolonged dummy use that can affect dental development.

Is Brunner Court right for my child?

As adult teeth come through, we monitor the developing bite and alignment and can advise on whether orthodontic treatment is likely to be needed and at what age. Referrals can be arranged where appropriate.

Do I need bone grafting before implants?

Brunner Court is a private practice and does not offer NHS dental treatment for children or adults. All treatment is provided on a private basis, with clear, transparent pricing discussed before any work begins.

What happens at your child's first appointment?

1
Starting point

A gentle introduction

We introduce your child to the practice, the dental chair and the team before any examination begins. For younger children or those who are anxious, we take as long as is needed to make them feel comfortable and in control.

2
Before we begin

The examination

Your child's clinician carries out a careful examination of the teeth and gums, using simple, reassuring language throughout. X-rays are taken only when clinically necessary and explained clearly to both child and parent beforehand.

3
The procedure

Findings and advice

Your clinician will explain what was found and give you clear, practical advice on home care, diet and anything that may need monitoring or treating. Nothing is done without your agreement as the parent or guardian.

4
Treatment

Any treatment needed

If treatment is required, your clinician will explain what is involved, answer any questions and carry out the procedure at whatever pace is right for your child. Local anaesthetic is used whenever needed and explained in child-friendly language before it is administered.

5
The moment it all comes together

Building a positive routine

We aim to end every child's appointment on a positive note so that the next visit feels less daunting. Regular visits from an early age are the most effective way to build a child's confidence and protect their long-term dental health.

Frequently asked questions about children's dentistry in Northwich

Yes. Brunner Court Dental & Implant Practice, 95 Witton Street, Northwich, CW9 5DR, welcomes children as patients. The practice provides routine examinations, preventive care, fissure sealants, white fillings and hygiene appointments for children in a calm, private environment. The practice does not offer NHS dental treatment. Call 01606 44394 to arrange your child's first appointment.

Most dental organisations recommend that children attend their first dental appointment as soon as their first tooth appears, or by their first birthday. Early visits help familiarise children with the dental environment, allow the clinician to monitor dental development from the outset and give parents guidance on diet, brushing and fluoride use from an early age. Starting young makes dental visits feel like a normal part of life rather than something to fear.

No. Brunner Court is a fully private dental practice and does not offer NHS dental treatment for children or adults. All treatment is provided on a private basis at transparent, written prices agreed before any work begins. If you are specifically looking for NHS dental treatment for your child, you will need to register with an NHS dental practice.

Yes. A number of our young patients are anxious about dental visits and our team is experienced in working gently with nervous children. We take as long as is needed to introduce the environment, explain what is happening and make the child feel as comfortable as possible before any examination or treatment begins. For children with significant anxiety, please mention this when you book so we can allow extra time and prepare accordingly.

Fissure sealants are a thin protective coating applied to the deep grooves on the biting surfaces of the back teeth, where decay most commonly starts in children. The procedure takes only a few minutes, is completely painless and requires no drilling or anaesthetic. They are particularly recommended for children who have deep grooves in their teeth, a history of decay or a diet higher in sugars. Your child's clinician will advise at examination whether sealants are appropriate.
